The breed originated in Germany, around 1900, taking its name from Louis Doberman of Apolda, a
tax collector, who desired a medium size dog to perform as a guard dog as well as companion.
Breeds utilized to develop the Doberman Pinscher may have included, the old shorthaired
shepherd, Rottweiler, Black and Tan Terrier and the German Pinscher.
The appearance is that of a dog of medium to large size, with a body that is square. Compactly
built, muscular and powerful, for great endurance and speed. Elegant in appearance, of proud
carriage, reflecting great nobility and temperament. Energetic, watchful, determined, alert, fearless,
loyal and obedient.
Allowed Colors: Black, red, blue, and fawn (Isabella). Markings: Rust, tan, mahogany is sharply
defined, appearing above each eye and on muzzle, throat and forechest, on all legs and feet, and
below tail. White patch on chest, not exceeding ½ square inch is permissible but not desired.

A properly bred and trained Doberman will prove itself as a friend and loyal guardian, as it was
developed for. Its qualities of intelligence and ability to absorb and retain training brought it into
demand as a police, search & rescue and war dog. The Doberman Pincher is the official dog of the
U.S. Marine Corp.

Biggest myth: All Dobermans turn on it's owner. This occurred in the period of the 1970's when
many irresponsible breeders were inbreeding Dobermans creating a non-stable an a inferior dog.
Fact: A well breed Doberman Pincher that's given love, care, and proper training will become
productive and reliable when it's older.
